Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery provides extra tuition for six year old children who are identified by a diagnostic survey as under achieving in reading and writing. These children are provided for by a daily individual tutoring programme to enable them to cope in the normal classroom at a comparative level with their peers.
The tutoring programme runs concurrently with the child's classroom programme. Each child's tutoring is for 30 minutes daily on a one to one basis.
The reading recovery teacher endeavours to develop in each child the behaviours that will encourage self improvement and establishes strategies that will assist each child to gain meaning from text.
The Reading Recovery teacher works with the children's classroom teacher, bringing him/her up to date with progress and together they help each other to assist the Reading Recovery pupils in the best possible way.
