The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees meets on the first Monday of the month in the school staff room. All parents and interested people are welcome to attend these meetings and learn more about the workings of the Board. Copies of the Minutes of the meetings are available to be read in the minutes book in the school foyer.

The PTA meets on the fourth Monday of each month in the staff room. New members are always welcome to join - just come along. This group is most supportive of all school activities in many different ways:

Absences

If children are not able to attend school, please phone or otherwise contact the school before 9 a.m. It is a legal requirement that schools are notified in the event of an absence.  If the school is not contacted, a text message will be sent informing parents that the child is not as school.

Assemblies

School assemblies are held in the school hall every second Friday at 12.00. Each class takes turns in running the assembly and it is an opportunity for the school to celebrate achievements that children have made during the previous fortnight. All parents and friends are most welcome to join us.

Newsletters

On Wednesdays, all homes should receive the school newsletter which is given to all children attending Wharenui. It contains up to date information about school happenings, coming events, community bits and pieces - in fact a mixture of all things concerning the school and our children.

Reporting

Informal: by arrangement with class teachers, parents or caregivers may meet with them to discuss any concerns they may have about their child's learning or behaviour.

Formal: as part of a whole school process parents and caregivers are provided with the following opportunities to meet with teachers:

  • · Term 1: "Meet the Teacher classroom meetings for parents and caregivers held in the early evening following a family picnic tea in the school grounds.
  • · Term 2: Interviews with class teachers to discuss each child's learning.
  • · Term 4: Written reports sent home at the end of November and interviews by arrangement. At the end of the year, there will be an opportunity to view each child’s portfolio - a collection of assessed material each child produces during the year.

Car Park

In the best interests of children's safety, parking before and after school is restricted to the marked space in the car park between the Recreation Centre and the administration block. Children may be collected from this area after school, but must wait at the curb until their parent comes to collect them, and escort them across the car park to their waiting car. The entry gate adjacent to the main entrance of the Hall is for staff cars only.

Road Patrol

The road patrol operates at the Matipo St crossing at the following times: 8.30 - 8.55 a.m. and 3.00 to 3.15 p.m.
Children on duty have been trained by the Police Education Officer in conjunction with the adult in charge. Each day a parent/caregiver or teacher is responsible for the supervision of and support for the children on duty. Our road patrol is an official traffic control. Children must cross at the crossing only.

School Donation

Each year, the Board of Trustees reviews the Child/Family school donation. Payment may be made at the school office. If preferred, payments can be made in installments over the year.

Lunch Orders

Before school, children or parents/caregivers can order and pay at the canteen in the school hall. Menus with prices are available at the school office and each classroom has a copy. Lunches are taken to the classrooms in time for lunch.
Children are not permitted to go to the shops or leave the school grounds to buy lunch.

Stationery

At the end of each year, children are given stationery lists for the following year. This allows parents/caregivers the opportunity to purchase books and stationery over the summer holiday period when they are able to take advantage of the "Back to School" bargains.
